MONCTON, NB, April 22, 2013 - Tuesday night at 7:30pm at the Red Ball Internet Centre the Don Johnson Memorial Junior B Cup gets underway with two New Brunswick teams facing off. By Sunday, April 28, one of the five participating teams will be crowned the Atlantic Junior B champs and have their name on the cup.
Before that happens there's four more days of exciting hockey as each team plays a game against the other in round robin with the first place team facing the fourth and the second and third placed teams facing off in semi final action Saturday. The winners will then move on to Sunday's gold medal game.
The host Moncton Vitos and the Fredericton Jr. Caps (NB) start things off in a replay of the NB provincial finals which ended with the Vitos sweeping the series. However they don't expect to have an easy time of Tuesday night's game as both teams will be fighting for placement in the semi finals.
All the teams will be on the ice Wednesday with the beginning of the three game a day round robin. Kensington Vipers (PEI) will get the day off with a game against the St. John's Caps (NL) at 12 noon. That's followed by the Sackville Blazers (NS) facing the Fredericton Caps at 3:00pm and winds up with the host facing St. John's at 7pm.
All the teams except the Blazers (their provincial finals didn't finish until April 16) have had a several week layoff and are hoping to get off to a quick start regardless. They have been holding intense practices to keep the players ready to play.
Round robin games are scheduled for every day at noon, 3:00pm and 7:00pm with the semi finals Saturday at 4:00 and 7pm and the championship Sunday. The awards banquet is slated for noon Saturday.
