For the first time since 2010, the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers and Sherwood A&S Scrap Metal Falcons will meet in an IJHL playoff series. The Vipers won the last series in a thrilling seven-game series between what use to be arch rivals.
Game one goes Sunday night at Community Gardens with a start time of 7pm. The Falcons come in fresh off a three-game upset of the Montague Total Assets Fitness Maniacs and have really turned their season around in the second half, arguably being the hottest team down the stretch. They rely heavily on veteran forwards Brandon Birt and Matthew McQuaid as well as former Western Capital Harrison Wood on the point. Both Sam Walsh and Daniel Nicholson played in the Quarter-finals and played well.
Grant Grady will lead the Vipers as well as their deep backend. Drew Coulson will miss action with an injury, meaning veterans Ryan Kelly and Ryan Murray will be counted on even more. The Vipers also have a deep front end lead by veterans Jordan Mayhew and Kyle Doucette who both have three IJHL championships to their names. The Vipers great crop of rookie forwards will also have to continue to contribute for the them to have success.
The Vipers won the season series going 6-1-1 but the past few games have all been really close. Fans are reminded that season tickets are not valid for playoffs.
