Holland College Hurricanes return to the ice on Wednesday night for a game against the cross-town Sherwood A&S Scrap Metal Falcons at the Cody Banks Arena at 8 pm. The 7-9-4 Falcons sit eight points ahead of the 4-12-2 Hurricanes who are coming off a 7-6 victory over the Western Red Wings on December 14th. The season series between the 'Canes and Falcons is 1-2-1 in favour of Sherwood.
The 'Canes busy week continues when they travel to Montague to take on the Maniacs at 7:30 pm at the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre. The Maniacs are having a strong season, currently sitting in second place with a 13-5-1 record they are just five points back of the first place Kensington Vipers. In four games this season the Hurricanes have defeated the Maniacs once, in the first game of the season, 5-1.
"We started 2013 off with a win, now we need to start 2014 with a couple more, play some good hockey and prepare ourselves for playoffs" shared second-year forward Jonny Richards.
On Saturday night the Hurricanes will return home to the Simmons Sport Centre with a matchup against the league leading Kensington Vipers at 8:15 pm.
Head coach Ryan Maxwell is keen to return to the ice.
"After a long break it's great to get back in action. It was nice to end 2013 with a win and we will look to build on that in the New Year. I give credit to the players after our losing streak, staying positive and continuing to work hard; it would have been just as easy to pack it in but they showed a lot of character in sticking with it. As a coach you want guys to buy in and play hard every game, with that said we are going to have to dust ourselves off after the break and get ready to go to work against Sherwood, Montague and Kensington this week".
On Monday the Hurricanes traded their captain and over-age player Blake Ozon to the Western Red Wings in exchange for a sixth round draft pick and future considerations to be named later.
