Head Coach, Steve Jamieson (right) and Assistant Coach, Dwayne Steele (left) of the Hynes Paving Maniacs, go over a drill during practice at the Cavendish Farms Wellness Ctr. in Montague earlier this week.  The Maniacs are the Eastern PEI entry in the Island Junior 'B' Hockey League.
The Kings County representative in the Island Junior Hockey League (IJHL) have undergone some new changes for the upcoming hockey season.  After a hiatus from the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre (CFWC) in Montague, the HYNES PAVING MANIACS are returning to the Montague area with new management, coaching and a new team sponsor in the form of Montague based business, Hynes Paving.

The former Eastern Maniacs enjoyed their home game atmosphere and fan support in Souris at the Eastern Kings Sportsplex for the past few hockey seasons and the opportunity presented itself, at the termination of the 2018-19 season, to reassess the route the Maniacs would take for this coming season.

Local Montague based entrepreneur and hockey enthusiast, Steve Jamieson, stepped up to the plate and throughout the spring and summer months with the cooperation of the CFWC, pulled together a team of volunteers and a core team sponsor to bring Island Junior B Hockey back to the Montague Area. Jamieson, the new team sponsor as well as the staff and Management of the CFWC, welcome the return of Junior Hockey to the Montague area and look forward to the community support for Island Junior Hockey, the team and these young players.

Jamieson indicated that there are 8 players returning from last years squad and a new group of eligible players have been drafted from the Kings County, Pownal, Ch'town and Sherwood Minor Hockey Programs. With a good mixture of veteran and rookie players that are committed to Junior Hockey, Jamieson is confident the team will be competitive with the rest of the IJHL teams for the coming season. The IJHL consists of 4 Island teams that play an interlocking schedule with 3 NB based teams. The HYNES PAVING MANIACS will suit up for their home games on Tuesday evenings at 8pm at the CFWC with the games versus the NB based teams being held on Friday evenings at 8pm. The MANIACS first game will be at 8pm on Tuesday Oct 15th in Montague versus last years 2nd place finishers in the regular season, the Kensington Moase Plumbing & Heating Vipers.
